History
These Ducati 851 Racing bikes were factory built at the end of 1990 as a close copy of Raymond Roche’s World Superbike championship winning race bike. They were produced in two batched of 25, 50 in total, all identical and were only offered to private race teams. The model was ridden to victory by Doug Polen in the 1991 and 1992 championships. The front mudguard, fairing under the swing arm, and the upswept exhausts were the result of wind tunnel testing on Roche’s 1990 bike. As a race bike, the model does not include an ignition key, starter, kickstand, cooling fan, or speedometer. The frame and swingarm are different from the SP road models. The Weber Marelli ECU is located in the nose cone, not under the seat, as the SP. The model includes higher compression ratio than on the SP, 50mm throttle bodies with two injectors per cylinder producing 135 rear wheel horsepower with a dry weight of 341 lbs.
